Sun., June 7, 2 pm: Meet Catherine Kochis to learn about Discovering Anna: A Story about Anna Kadak, a Scranton Woman at the Catlin House. Catherine will share the story of how she found a box of historic letters during a renovation of an old Scranton residence and was so captivated with the collection and its author, Anna Kadak, that she decided to organize them and share them in a published format.  The result, Discovering Anna, explores the series of letters that were written over twenty years, 1920s through 1940s, and provide a unique perspective of how national events like WWII effected on family and also offer interesting tidbits of local happenings like the 1940 bombing of Dr. Rebhorn’s family on Webster Avenue in Scranton and the St. Valentine’s Day Blizzard that crippled the region that same year.

 

Mon., June 8, 5:30 pm: Screening documentary of Finding Justice: The Untold Story of Women's Fight for the Vote(19-minute long) at the Century Club, 612 Jefferson Avenue, Scranton. The Lackawanna Historical Society, in partnership with The Scranton Area Community Foundation (SACF), presents Pennsylvania Women and Their Fight for the Vote. Join us for a screening of the 19-minute documentary , followed by a Q&A with Amanda Owen, the filmmaker and Executive Director of the Justice Bell Foundation. The film tells the story of the Justice Bell, a one-ton bronze replica of the Liberty Bell with its clapper chained to symbolize women's silenced voices, toured all 67 Pennsylvania counties in 1915 to rally support for a state suffrage referendum and was finally rung in Philadelphia in 1920 after ratification of the 19th Amendment. Signed copies of Owen's new book, The Justice Bell: Tracing the Journey of a Forgotten Symbol, will be available for purchase. Light refreshments will be available. Sat., July 11, 10 am - Noon: Genealogy Forum Workshop How to Find Your Civil War Ancestor in NE Pennsylvania - The Civil War, 1861-1865, was a defining moment in American history, and this workshop aims to help those attempting to locate their ancestor in it. The program runs 10 a.m.-noon, on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at the GAR Civil War Museum, at Steamtown Mall, Scranton (near Crunch Gym). We will explore census records, state historical databases, federal service and pension records, published regimental and family histories, church and newspaper databases, and cemetery records as starting points, and then learn to fill out your family’s part in the bigger story. We will also, peruse the Civil War Museum to learn the who, what, where, when, why, and how of the Civil War, and its impact on American life. The Lackawanna Historical Society Genealogy Forum program will be led by former newspaper editor Robert L. (Bob) Baker, who has four Civil War soldiers in his ancestry. Seating will be limited to 15 individuals.

Wed., Aug. 5, 6 pm: The Susquehanna Union Volunteers lecture with James(Jay) Knarr This talk will discuss the company’s history, based on the speaker’s aptly titled book, The Susquehanna Union Volunteers. Selected vignettes from the book will be offered to understand the motivations and actions of the brave Susquehanna County men who answered the nation’s call in 1861, including Thomas W. Stone, who was born and is buried in Waverly. Admission: Free

James (Jay) Knarr holds a PhD in History from Texas Christian University (TCU). He works as a back-of-the-book indexer and academic translator in Weatherford, Texas, with his wife, daughter, and enough housepets to qualify his domicile as a zoo in most jurisdictions.

The Jersey Grays living history organization is a steadfast group of authentic reenactors who portray the 3rd New Jersey Battalion, the "Jersey Grays", Capt. Bloomfield's Co. since 2014. The Grays will lead programming discussing the preparations and impacts of the Sullivan Campaign throughout the Wyoming Valley and into New York in 1779.

NOTE: Snacks and beverages may be purchased on the train and a map listing Tunkhannock eateries will be provided for those who wish to grab lunch during the layover.
